Antonibakken / 2018
In 2016 I got awarded with a 1st prize for a new residential area at Antonihøjen in Præstø. And I have been assisting the municipality of Vordingborg by creating a new district plan for the area. In 2018 the plan got approved by the local politicians, and the first construction on the land started in 2020. During the political process the name of the project also got changed from Antonihøjen to Antonibakken, which is the name that the locals previously used.
The updated plan layout looks very much like the winning proposal from the competition in 2016, but based on comments from the jury and input from politicians, locals and others, the plan has been adjusted. The intentions have been kept alive and I believe that the adjustments have made the project even better in the updated version.
The updated project at Antonibakken still provides charming narrow city spaces with rowhouses along the central ‘broken road’, which is a link to Præstø’s existing urban structure. At the same time, it also creates a new unique residential area with its own identity and leaves as much space to the surrounding public green areas as possible. By doing that every resident will have strong contact to nature and at the same time a close relation to the neighbors.
The development plan is still divided into smaller spaces, surrounded by 'broken roads' and consists of eight smaller enclaves with a mix of rowhouses and villas. This allows for a strong neighborhood with a high level of social sustainability, whether people meet over the hedge, at Antonibakken itself or during a run on the paths around the mound. The mound at Antonibakken is also still kept free of construction and remains as an area that is accessible to everyone.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the development my project has undergone since winning in 2016, and I am very excited to follow the development of the area.
