Klaksvik City Centre - awarded competition / 2012
Amongst 154 proposals I was awarded a 4th prize in the open urban international competition for a new city center in Klaksvik which is the second largest city on the Faroe Islands. The task of the project was to make a new master plan with 21.000 new square meters in the city center.
The project highlights the already existing natural qualities with the close contact to the fjord and the beautiful surrounding mountains. By adjusting the coastline the water becomes the structuring element in the new city area that unite the city and makes Klaksvik more interesting on the Faroe Islands and outside the country's borders. New canals, harbor spaces and boat facilities make the possibilities for a lively city life on the water and besides from that, lots of good public spaces on land is being created. Surrounded by wooden buildings with up to four levels a new city center with the human scale and city life in focus is being created.
