Antonihøjen - 1st prize in competition / 2016
In contest with 40 other teams I have been awarded the first prize in an open Danish architectural ideas competition. The task has been to develop a master plan for a new residential area at Antonihøjen in the Danish city of Præstø.
Præstø is an older, smaller city with a population less than 4.000. It has beautiful winding streets and a dense urban structure with varying facades. The site of the competition is currently farming land located just west of Præstø, but the approach of the proposal has been to provide a modern interpretation of the existing city structure.
The project ‘Den Grønne Antonihøj' (meaning ‘The Green Antonihøj’) provides charming narrow city spaces. The plan links to Præstøs existing urban structure, but at the same time it creates a new unique residential area with its own identity and leaves as much space to the surrounding public spaces as possible. By doing that every resident will have strong contact to nature and at the same time a close relation to the neighbors.
The development plan is divided into smaller spaces, surrounded by 'broken roads' and consists of 8-9 smaller enclaves. This allows for a strong neighborhood with a high level of social sustainability, whether people meet over the hedge at the Antonihøj itself or during a run on the paths around the mound. The mound at the Antonihøj is kept free of construction and remains as an area that is accessible to everyone.
The proposal was awarded with the 1st prize and DKK 250.000.
