Villa Munk / 2019

At Simsand Architects I have designed an extension of an existing villa north of Copenhagen. The client needed additional room with an extra bedroom, and at the same time additional space in the living and dining room. An extension and a reorganization of the existing villa was needed. One of the key design challenges – in addition to the functionalities – was the aesthetic relationship between the new and the old part of the villa.

The solution was an extension with the same width of the western façade and with same details as in the original house, and the intention was to make it look as if it had looked like this from the beginning. In the extension there is a new living room with direct access to the garden and a new master bedroom with walk-in closet and a large bath area. The first floor is transformed into two new bedrooms and a large new bathroom for the kids. Also, a part of the task was to make a redesign of the garden in relation to the extended size of the villa.
