Stortorget Katrineholm / 2014
In Sweden I have designed a new residential building in Katrineholm south of Stockholm. The project was part of an international open competition, and the task was to design 30 flats and besides functions that could improve the city life with various shops.
The building was going to be in the city center at a lively square and right next to the train station. The location therefore asked for an extrovert building that would give something back to the city life. Therefore, the ground of first floor did consist of public functionalities such as shops and restaurants. A covered passage at ground level in front of the shops created a nice shopping experience covered from wind and rain and at the first floor a large terrace with a great view over the square with the possibility of outdoor service for the restaurants. Five stories of private flats were located on top of the public functionalities. All with large windows, balconies and access to the big shared roof terrace where everyone would have the change to get to know each other.
